In Memoriam William John Thomas Waldron (1908-2002)

During the course of the conference at which this work was presented my Grandfather sadly died.

He was born in 1908, which means that during the course of his life, the transforming principle was discovered, and it was later used to show that DNA was the genetic material. He would have seen the coming of the double helix, and the invention of di-deoxy sequencing.

It's unlikely that he cared much about any of these things, but, none the less, his life spanned all of the discoveries that made modern genetics possible. His death reminds me how lucky I feel to live in such interested times, to see new discoveries as they happen.
