CSC8309 -- Gene Expression and Proteomics

Main Assessment

This assignment is designed to test your ability to analyse the function of an individual protein, based upon known interactions with other proteins.

You should submit an report of 4 pages in length, using bioinformatics format. As usual this is a HARD PAGE LIMIT and you will be penalised for going over it.

The report should describe the background and your analysis of one of the proteins, the ID of which you can get here.

Think about:

• Where the protein might fit into the processes under study in the original paper
• Where the protein is found in the protein-protein interaction network, and what implications this might have for its function.

In particular, you should describe:

• The background to the experiment
• The methods that you have used to analyse your protein.
• The conclusions that you have drawn about your protein.

Marks will be awarded for the following: scientific writing style (10%), background (10%), methods (35%), results of analysis (30%) and discussion of the results(15%).

You should perform AT LEAST the analyses described in this practical; additionals methods that you have discovered on your own will attract additional marks.
