CSC8309 -- Gene Expression and Proteomics

Assessment

We have now shown you a complete end-to-end analysis for one of the cell lines compared to HUVEC, as well as many of the statistical comparisons that you need for all cell lines.

Within the time limits available, you should perform equivalent analysis between the eye cell lines vs HUVECs; you may also attempt to compare the analyses between the cell lines themselves, or perform additional downstream analysis using any technique that you feel is appropriate.

Clearly the time limitation is a significant factor here; choosing a coherent set of analyses is a significant part of the practical. If you feel that you can draw a meaningful biological analysis, then this is good, however you are not required to do so to achieve excellent marks on this practical; a convincing analysis is sufficient regardless of the conclusions.

Deliverables

A finished paper produced in the style of a Bioinformatics paper. You can see some examples of the style at http://www.oxfordjournals.org/bioinformatics/for_authors/general.html

The paper should obey a strict 4 page limit. People exceeding this page limit will be penalised. You must obey the style guide lines for bioinformatics — you should not shrink font sizes.

Marks will be given for scientific writing style (10%), background (10%), methods (35%), results of analysis (30%) and discussion of the results(15%).

In particular, additional marks will be award for:
