CSC8312 -- Bioinformatics Theory and Applications

Conclusions

This has been a very rapid fly through some of the data that is available to the biologist and bioinformatician. Already you will have seen how complex some of the databases are, how much information is there. There are many many more databases out there. Added to this, there are many tools that you can use to analyse this data. Becoming familar with at least some of these is part of the work of the bioinformatician.

You've also seen some of the ways in which the data is accessed and organised. Bioinformaticians tend to automate their analyses as they will often involve a large number of genes. Understanding how to get the information that you need from the web, extract those parts that you need and then analyse these.
