Aims & Objectives:
- This exercise is designed
to introduce post-graduate students to a range of useful web based molecular
sequence analysis tools by working through some examples in a step-by-step
fashion.
- The exercise aims to introduce
researchers to the exisitence and location of the tools and also provide some
basic background behind the use of the most commonly used tools. The exercise
is not meant to be an exhaustive discussion of the techniques and algorithms
used. Links to further reading are provided for this purpose.
Intended Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this three hour
session you should be:
- Familiar
with the existence, basic operation and location of a number of web based
tools that will prove useful for basic nucleic acid and protein sequence handling
and analysis
- Have a deeper understanding
of some of the basic concepts of the theory behind the most commonly used
tools
